Personal Project

Te Reo Māori practice

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Take me to the website

To support my studies in Te Reo Māori, I built a practice websites for basic grammatical structures taught in lessons with Akohia Te Reo. This has also been used by other students in my course.

The practice options include: numbers, time, possessives and action phrases.

Questions (and their translated answers) are randomly generated using templated grammars. These templates support a variety of agreement rules, such as A/O category, person and number. The website also supports multiple correct answers when they exist (e.g. gendered pronouns do not exist in Māori, but do in English).

The website allows for users to control:

  • the difficulty of the questions generated
  • which language to generate questions in (or randomized)
  • drilling down to a subset (e.g. a specific tense or possesion type)
  • whether to include negation questions
