StudentVis is a pre-existing system used by VUW ECS (Engineering and Computer Science) to visualise and monitor the performance of first year students and first year cohorts. My honours project worked to extend the existing visualisation set by focusing on developing multi-year visualisations that show student academic pathways.
I developed three new visualisations, which I prototyped using NodeJS, D3, SQLite. I was fortunate to have access to anonymised ECS student data from the past 15 years for this project. A user study was run with senior staff members of ECS to evaluate the prototype.
ITS (Information Technology Services) at VUW has since investigated the project with the potential of offering it to all faculties.
For privacy reasons, I cannot publish any of the visualisations populated with the data from the university.
